AUTUMN 2017: HIMALAYAN TREK

NANDA DEVI ADVENTURE

Trek the western ranges of Nanda Devi with Martin Moran

15th Sept-6th Oct

Sunrise over 7816m Nanda Devi from Chaukori

Join Martin Moran for magnificent trekking and exploration around the west side of the Nanda Devi Sanctuary, most beautiful and famous part of the Indian Himalaya, including the first three days of the famous sanctuary trek. Only a few trekkers are allowed to do this trek into the Nanda Devi World Biosphere Reserve each year. It is an exciting privilege to enter this precious wilderness area.

“I invite trekkers and mountaineers to join me in a small exclusive group to explore the valleys and passes down the western side of the Nanda Devi range. Our group will be 4 in maximum number and we plan to move light and fast with help of a cook and 3-4 porters. We will explore the Bagini Glacier to the base of Changabang and Kalanka north faces, then cross two 4500m passes under the west wall of 7075m Dunagiri to link to the start of the Nanda Devi Sanctuary trek at Tolma village. With permits we will be allowed to follow the Sanctuary trek as far as Dibrugheta camp in the midst of the forests of the Rishi Ganga gorge with Nanda Devi main peak just  five miles distant. Members can leave the trip once we return to the Joshimath valley to complete a 15-day itinerary; or you can join me for an adventurous finale climbing the wild Ronti valley and crossing the 5300m Ronti Saddle, first crossed by Eric Shipton in 1936 and rarely since, on glacial terrain to reach Hom Kund base camp under Trisul West Face. Here, I will be joining our Trisul expedition to support the last two weeks of their attempt on the West Face whilst the trek team will trek out down the Nandakini valley with our Indian staff and return to Delhi.

MARTIN MORAN

The trip Is recommended to seasoned trekkers, photographers, wildlife enthusiasts and mountaineers who want to journey through the mountains in lightweight style.
