A linked trip offering the choice of an exciting climb or magnificent trek with the first half of the itinerary shared; perhaps a chance for partners or friends to enjoy the trip together yet attempt different objectives:-
Nanda Ghunti, "the bell of the Goddess Nanda", a splendid isolated peak overlooking the east Garwhal hills, first climbed in 1947, its east Ridge. We plan a NEW ROUTE attempt on the South Face by a snow gully of c.50 deg angle - at probable Alpine AD standard. Applicants should have significant snow and ice experience, preferably with climbs at altitudes in excess of 4000m.
The Roop Kund trek provides a wonderful 6 day approach to the base of the mountain, ascending alpine pastures bedecked with spring flowers to the tiny mystery lake of Roop Kund then crossing a 4750m col to reach the Hom Kund base camp. After days spent relaxing at Hom Kund and climbing to the 5200m Ronti Saddle the trekking group will descend the forested Nandakini valley then cross the 12,500 foot Kuari Pass which offers one of the finest mountain views in the world. The trek is moderately strenuous with some passages on snow
